Albert Einstein signed program from 3 May 1946 when Einstein was awarded an honorary degree at the historically black university Lincoln University. Einstein was invited by University President Horace M. Bond, who acquired the signature himself, and is now consigned by Bond's grandson. Singed with his full name ''Albert Einstein'' in black fountain pen on the one-page program measuring 6'' x 9''. Top of page is affixed to interior of book, ''Education of the Negro in the American Social Order'' by Bond. Folds and minor creasing, overall in very good condition.
Einstein's historic visit to Lincoln University was the only honorary degree he accepted from an HBCU. He generally eschewed honorary degrees but made an exception for Lincoln, as he wanted to support the historically black university system. In his speech at Lincoln, Einstein said, ''My trip to this institution was on behalf of a worthwhile cause...There is a separation of colored people from white people in the United States. That separation is not a disease of colored people. It's a disease of white people.''
