Enrico Caruso Hand-Drawn Sketch on Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires Stationery Circa 1917 While On a South American Tour
Enrico Caruso's hand-drawn sketch, unsigned, on Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires stationery. Best known for his signature role as Canio in "Pagliacci," Caruso was also a pioneer in recorded sound, selling a million records at the dawn of the medium. More obscure was his passion for visual art, particularly caricatures, a medium he became quite accomplished at over his lifetime. Likely a friend or acquaintance circa 1917, as Caruso was touring South America at the time, portrait depicts a man wearing glasses and an overcoat posing stoically in profile. Drawing is done in pencil and measures 8.25" x 10.5". Matted in white to an overall size of 10.5" x 14.5". Toning throughout and minor folds, else very good condition.
