Lot of two silver gelatin photos taken by David F. Barry, the western photographer whose portraits of the Lakota people earned him the nickname ''Little Shadow Catcher'' by the tribe. First photo titled ''Sioux Burial Place'' shows bodies raised on scaffolding. In the Sioux tradition, a body was laid in a tree or in scaffolding approximately eight feet off the ground for a full year before it was buried in the ground. Photo measures 6.375'' x 8.375''. Photo is mounted to black construction paper, on the verso of which is the second photo of Comanche, Captain Myles Keogh's horse and the only survivor of the Battle of Little Bighorn. Measures 8.375'' x 6.375''. With Barry's copyright stamps to lower right margin. Light silvering and handling wear, overall very good.
