Millard Fillmore autograph letter signed with interesting political content regarding the 1839 Whig Presidential nominating convention. Datelined Washington on 19 April 1838, Fillmore writes to New York journalist and politician Thurlow Weed, in part, ''We have agreed to have an National Convention for nominating President and V. Pres't at Harrisburgh on the first Wed. in Dec. 1839. The question was much discussed and may possibly be again reconsidered as the vote is not yet final...Fillmore''. The Whigs did nominate William Henry Harrison for President on 4 December 1839, who went on to win the U.S. Presidency in 1840. Single page measures 7.875'' x 10''. Archival repair along folds on verso. Uniform toning, overall in very good plus condition with bold handwriting.
