Abraham Lincoln military appointment signed, a near fine example on bright vellum, signed ''Abraham Lincoln''. Dated 1 August 1864, Lincoln appoints Walter Forehand to the rank of Captain in the Veteran Reserve Corps. Previously with the 15th Massachusetts Infantry, Forehand was wounded in action at Antietam and also the Battle of Ball's Bluff. Countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Vellum document measures 15'' x 18.75''. Minor toning to edges and folds as issued including one affecting signature. Writing in body of document is light, though Lincoln's signature remains strong. Near fine condition.
