Abraham Lincoln signed ship's passport, with an elegant, bold ''Abraham Lincoln'' signature, countersigned by William H. Seward as Secretary of State. Abraham Lincoln signed ship's passports are notoriously rare and coveted, their scarcity the result of the Confederacy's aggressive blockade of shipping routes during the Civil War. Passport is unaccomplished, without name filled out and therefore likely signed shortly before Lincoln's assassination. With wax-based paper seal at lower let and picturesque vignettes at top of a schooner and lighthouse. Document measures 11.25'' x 18'', archivally hinged at top to mat measuring 15.5'' x 22.25''. Some foxing, else near fine condition.
