Albert Einstein typed letter signed on his personal Princeton letterhead, dated 16 May 1938. Einstein writes to a friend, Lotte Aninger, who wishes to leave Europe amid the growing Nazi threat, and seeks Einstein's advice. Translated from the original German, letter reads in part,

''...How much has happened since those days! You can imagine that I am very much occupied in helping people gain entrance into the United States who have fallen into difficulty due to political circumstances. With your financial means, you can immigrate to America at any time without any assistance. Since the Austrian and German quotas were merged, the annual quota is no longer an obstacle for you. However, it is worth considering whether immigration to a country less rich in capital than North American might be more advantageous for you…[signed] A. Einstein''.

Einstein used much of his power to help resettle European Jews and others vulnerable to the Nazis. He himself left Germany shortly after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933 and immigrated to the United States later that year. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds and faint spot of foxing, overall near fine condition. Accompanied by original mailing envelope. With RR Auction COA and PSA/DNA auction COA.
