Sheriff Patrick Floyd Garrett signed and initialed stock certificate from The Alabama Gold and Copper Mining Company, based out of Jarilla, New Mexico. Garrett is best remembered as the Sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico Territory who mortally shot notorious outlaw Billy the Kid, one of the Regulators in the Lincoln County War. Dated 12 December 1899, Garrett signs as Secretary of the company, ''P.F. Garrett'' and also initials a revenue stamp on verso, ''P.F.G.''. Attractive document with gold corporate seal measures 10.375'' x 8.125''. Folds as issued, overall near fine. Previously sold in December 1997 for $1,840 as lot 43 in Christie's Books and Manuscripts sale 8792.
