Bronze restrike of the U.S. Congressional medal awarded to George Foster Robinson in 1871 for saving the life of Secretary of State William Seward. Occurring on 14 April 1865, the same day as Abraham Lincoln's assassination, conspirator Lewis Payne attacked Seward but was stopped by Robinson, who then provided first aid to Seward. Circa 1900, bronze restrike was produced by the U.S. Mint and issued in a small quantity as a commemorative medal. Medal measures approximately 3'' in diameter, housed in case measuring 6.25'' x 7.25''. Medal is affixed into case so that its reverse isn't viewable without cutting through case.
