Complete set of "Harper's Weekly" newspapers from 1858, bound together into a book measuring 12" x 16.5", with each of the weekly papers running approximately 16 pages. Debuting in 1857, this is only the second year of publication for "Harper's Weekly", containing all the important news, opinions and illustrations of the day. Some of the important news stories covered are the Lincoln-Douglas Debates on slavery, the completion of the first trans-Atlantic telegraph cable, the discovery of the Comstock Lode of silver in Nevada, the establishment of Minnesota as the 32nd state, and the Marais des Cygnes massacre in "Bleeding Kansas". In its 13 February issue, a Congressional brawl ("pugilistic affray") between northern and southern Congressmen is reported upon. Backstrip missing on brown cloth boards, minor toning and foxing within. Very good condition.
