Hunter S. Thompson typed letter with literary content, prompted by the fury that Thompson felt for one of his high school friends accepting a position in a bank training program. Undated, but written sometime in the summer of 1961, Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin, excerpting a portion of Thompson's letter to their mutual friend. Letter reads in part, ''FYI -- Letter to [Gerald] Ching Tyrrell, upon receipt of his letter, following my somewhat niggardly reply to an invitation to his wedding. -- / 'Yes Ching, I think it's wonderful that you made that training program* I hope to christ that you're 'stable and conservative to become a banker'...'When I get back to Louisville I'm going to come steaming into your apartment...like a beast of hell, the sun flashing on my stained teeth and my lips curled back with thirst for whiskey. No highballs in this league, my man, but whiskey poured in great flagons, thumping like drums in the throat and setting the balls aflame. No response in this world, Ching; beware the great thirst and the boiling balls of a man too long denied the training program. See you soon -- H'...Rum Diary progressing viciously. Sandy working. If we can whap the [n-word] before they whap us, we might win. Take it easy. H'', with Thompson circling his initial. Single page measures 5'' x 8''. Near fine condition.
