James Monroe document signed as President, appointing John McIntosh to the position of Customs Collector at Brunswick, Georgia on 5 December 1820. John McIntosh was a member of the prominent McIntosh family of Georgia and served in the Army during the War of 1812. Boldly signed ''James Monroe'' and countersigned by William H. Crawford as Secretary of the Treasury. With intact paper seal to lower left. Document measures 13.5'' x 8.75'', partially affixed to a slightly larger sheet. Some ink haloing and repaired close tears, overall very good condition.
