John Steinbeck typed letter signed in type, composed to Putney Nursery on 27 February 1958. In this letter, Steinbeck admits ''This seems a very small matter to trouble you with'' before asking their recommendation for a variety of ferns to adorn a detailed landscape display. With one word, ''soil'', added by Steinbeck's hand. Letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds and light creasing, overall near fine. Letter is likely a retained copy held by Steinbeck's typist Mary Morgan, as it originates from her collection.
