Ulysses S. Grant document boldy signed ''US Grant'' as President. His signature makes official the appointment of Thomas Coggeshall to the position of Deputy Postmaster at Newport, Rhode Island. Dated 13 July 1870, the partially-printed document is countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish on a single sheet of delicate paper. Seal is affixed to the lower left. Measures 17.75'' x 11.25''. Toning and pinhole separation to fold intersections, with a few pencil notations to verso. Very good condition.
