Declaration signer Charles Carroll autograph letter signed, dated 24 January 1827. Letter is addressed to a Dr. William Gibbons, regarding settlement of a financial matter, and is signed ''Ch. Carroll of Carrollton''. With an additional signature by Gibbons, ''Mr. William Gibbons'' on a 6'' x 6.5'' blank sheet. Reads in part: ''...I received this morning by mark your letter of the 23 -- I will not receive money from Sir Thickun...The reasons you have signed against my receiving money where wheat is due are strictly just and convincing...'' 1pp. letter measures 6.5'' x 8'' and has a 3'' tear with archival repair on verso. Toning throughout, overall good condition.
