Stanley Kubrick typed letter signed on his personal stationery, dated 28 November 1966, while he was working on ''2001: A Space Odyssey''. Letter is addressed to noted physicist and ''New Yorker'' journalist Jeremy Bernstein, who profiled the director for the magazine. The two became friends while Kubrick was making ''2001''. Presumably, this letter relates to that article as it came out two weeks earlier. Reads in full: ''Dear Jeremy, The article seems to be a big hit. I've gotten quite a lot of letters from people I haven't heard from, and even from some that I never expected to hear from again, all saying how much they like it. I am sorry that the weaknesses of human nature seem also to exist on the academic level. I do hope that things work out. Let me know. Everyone sends their love.'' Signed in black ink, ''Stanley''. Letter on one page measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Two horizontal folds, light toning and tape remnants to verso, else near fine condition.
