President Ulysses S. Grant document signed ''U.S. Grant'', dated 20 May 1870. Countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. Document appoints an E. Philip Jacobson, ''...Attorney of the United States in & for the Southern District of Mississippi and do authorize & empower him to execute & fulful [sic] the duties of that Office...'' Signatures of both Grant and Fish are bold and clear, and original blindstamped seal is intact. Document measures 15.5'' x 10.5''. Toning and points of separation to folds, with a minor split along right edge, else near fine.
