James Buchanan signs his full name "Free / James Buchanan" in large letters to a slip of paper. The signed slip is pasted on a thicker piece of paper, next to another slip that bears an inscription in an unknown hand, "I send you old Buck's signature as he endorsed it on this envelope of a doct rec'd to-day". A small tear extends from the top edge, grazing the "J" of James. Very good condition.
