Important typed letter signed by President Richard Nixon on 24 June 1971 regarding the defining issue of the 1960's, Vietnam. Here, Nixon thanks Congressman Bill Young for voting against the Nedz-Whalen amendment, which would have halted funding for the Vietnam War. Nixon writes in small part: ''...This action by the House of Representatives helped materially to strengthen the efforts of this Administration to achieve a cease-fire, the release of American prisoners, and the negotiation of a just peace...adoption would seriously jeopardize the progress we are making in ending American involvement in Vietnam and in achieving a just peace...together we might increase the chances not only of ending this war but also of ensuring that other Americans will not have to fight other wars in the future...[signed] RN''. 1pp. on White House letterhead measures 6.75'' x 10.5''.
