Photo album from the late 19th century. Ornate, beautifully crafted album is stocked with 30 sepia toned images, mostly carte de visite portraits, tucked into the slots of 24 heavy pages. Two photos are of George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant with his family; most others are portraits of regular people and children, including one adorable tintype of twin boys dressed alike. Most of the CDV's have backmarks from various photography studios. Bound in brown leather boards with gilt lettering, white glass bead decorations and metal fasteners. All edges gilt and embossed with a floral design. Measures 5'' x 6.25''. Pencil notation to front free endpaper, cracking at hinge between front free endpaper and fly-leaf. A charming love poem clipped from a periodical has been affixed to the rear free endpaper. Expected foxing and toning, else near fine.
