Pine wood block from the White House, removed during its 1927 renovation under President Coolidge. This wood piece was originally built into the roof of the White House during the James Madison presidency, after British troops burned the beloved mansion down during the War of 1812. Descriptive label attached to top reads in part, ''Section of Timber Removed From the White House After 112 Years of Service''. Measures 4'' x 2.25'' x 2.25''. Minor scratching, else near fine.
