P.T. Barnum autograph letter signed to his tour manager J.B. Pond. Barnum's personal stamp bears his name and datelines the letter Bridgeport, Connecticut, 22 June 1876. Barnum, donning his businessman hat, writes, in part, ''My dear Pond...Surely you don't want to be a partner in the show! How could you find time? It would take some little money to start out right and would require a source of time & experience. My present manager would have to comment before a picture could be taken in the curiosity store, for by written agreement they have the first right to all chances where I & my name go. I am robust and jolly and hope you are ditto. / P.T. Barnum''. Single-page letter on a sheet of ruled stationery is matted and framed, flanked by photo portraits of Barnum and Pond. The photo of Barnum on the left bears the photographer's name in gilt and appears to be an original vintage print. Viewable area of the letter measures 4.75'' x 7.75''. Barnum photo measures 4'' x 6.25''. Frame measures 27.5'' x 16.75'' overall. Items have not been removed from frame but appear only lightly toned, with faint creasing to letter, else near fine.
