U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ward Hunt signs a note as Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals. The note, written in an unknown hand reads in full: ''In the Court of Appeals of the State of New York held at the City of Albany the 8th day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine / Present: [signed] Ward Hunt Chief Judge''. Hunt is known for finding Susan B. Anthony guilty of breaking the law when she voted in the 1872 election, one of the decisions leading to ratification of the 19th Amendment. Measures 7.75'' x 3.75''. Discoloration to ''Ward'', else very good condition.
