Dated 7 May 1954, letter to Dean reads in part, ''Dear Mr. Dean: With reference to your contract of employment with us dated April 7, 1954, please be advised that...we hereby designate May 15, 1954 as the date on which we will require you to commence your services under said contract in connection with the motion picture to be produced by us entitled 'EAST OF EDEN'...''
