Signature by Robert H. Goddard, the father of space flight whose work on rocketry was largely ridiculed in his lifetime. It wasn't until after Goddard passed in 1945 that he was ultimately vindicated. Slip taken from a letter signed ''R.H. Goddard'' in black fountain pen is mounted to an index card also signed by Goddard's wife, Esther C. Goddard. Accompanied by envelope postmarked 11 May 1959, with Esther likely responding to an autograph request. Slip measures approximately 3.5'' x 1'' on the 5'' x 3'' unlined index card.
