George W. Bush signed excerpt from his moving speech delivered at Ground Zero on 14 September 2001, just days after the tragedy. Known as the ''Bullhorn'' speech, since the President used a bullhorn to communicate with the rescue workers, his impromptu speech reads in part:
''President Bush: I want you all to know that America today, America today is on bended knee, in prayer for the people whose lives were lost here, for the workers who work here, for the families who mourn...''
The President then uses the bullhorn after a rescue worker calls out, ''George, we can't hear you!''
''President Bush: I can hear you! I can hear you! The rest of the world hears you! And the people - and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!...The Nation sends its love and compassion...Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for makin' the Nation proud, and may God bless America / [signed] George Bush''.
