Francis I, King of France letter signed as King, with bold and prominent signature, ''Francoys''. The French Renaissance King here writes his trusted advisor Jean de Selve, then serving as president of the Parlement de Paris, regarding the release of a prisoner upon payment of a fine. Datelined Lyon on 22 June 1522, letter translates in part, ''Jay has been informed that Angouleme, a herald-at-arms, has been held prisoner in my Chatelet in Paris for seven months.'' Countersigned by the Minister of Finance Jean le Breton. Single page measures approximately 8'' x 10''. With integral address panel to verso. Small split starting at foldline, small holes at intersecting folds, and pinholes to left margin from previous binding. Overall very good plus condition.
