The French Renaissance King here writes his trusted advisor Jean de Selve, then serving as president of the Parlement de Paris, regarding the release of a prisoner upon payment of a fine. Datelined Lyon on 22 June 1522, letter translates in part, ''Jay has been informed that Angouleme, a herald-at-arms, has been held prisoner in my Chatelet in Paris for seven months.'' Countersigned by the Minister of Finance Jean le Breton. Single page measures approximately 8'' x 10''. With integral address panel to verso. Small split starting at foldline, small holes at intersecting folds, and pinholes to left margin from previous binding. Overall very good plus condition.
