Sam Houston free-franked holograph envelope, postmarked from Washington DC on 1 September, with date obscured but sometime between 1853-59 when Houston served as U.S. Senator from Texas and after the cover's recipient, George M. Conarroe, Esq., was admitted to the bar in Philadelphia. Cover is addressed entirely in Houston's hand, with his distinct and bold signature at top. Measures 5'' x 2.75''. Affixed on flap to slip, displayed with an engraving of Houston to an overall size of 9.875'' x 16.625''. Near fine condition.
