Important document signed by Alexander Hamilton, establishing the framework for North Carolina to be added as the 12th state in the United States. Dated 3 March 1790 from the Treasury Department, Hamilton adds his signature to the circular reading in part, ''You will receive herewith an Act of Congress of the 8th of February...in respect to the State of North Carolina...which I transmit for your government. / I am / Sir / Your Obed Servant / A. Hamilton''.

Because North Carolina ratified the U.S. Constitution after the 1st Congress had already met, it had to be absorbed into the United States, with the 8 February 1790 act referenced by Hamilton serving that purpose. The act established federal courts and extended federal revenue laws to North Carolina, among other purposes. Single page measures 7.25'' x 8.25''. Folds and toning from previous framing, overall very good plus condition.
