Extraordinarily rare original Apple-1 Operation Manual from 1976, one of among 65 surviving copies, and here twice-signed by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Perhaps the only such copy signed by Wozniak, who pens ''Woz'' in black-felt-tip to the fold-out schematic and also to the page 11 schematic.
Manual has all four printing points of the 1976 original, distinguishable from the German reprint as follows: 1) the fold-out schematic is properly bound with page 1 reading ''NOTES; UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED:-'' opposite page 8, and page 2 reading ''NOTES: (continued from sheet 1/3)'' therefore opposite page 11; 2) the handwritten notation of ''6502'' doesn't appear on page 1 of the fold-out schematic; 3) the fold-out schematic is folded into thirds, rather than halves; 4) placement of the two staples in the binding match the original, placed further apart from each other than in the reprint.
In early 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak sold 50 pre-assembled units of the Apple-1 computer to Paul Terrell, owner of the Byte Shop in Mountain View, California, hoping to expand Apple's market beyond hobbyists who assembled and soldered the machines themselves. This Operation Manual accompanied those pre-assembled computers, and bears the address of 770 Welch Road in Palo Alto, where the company received mail for only a few months in 1976. The sale to the Byte Shop was the first proof of concept for Apple and served as its seed funding, convincing Jobs and Wozniak to quit their day jobs at Atari and HP and formally incorporate the company in April 1976. It also made history as the very first sale of a personal computer. Apart from the 50 computers sold to Byte Shop, Apple made 150 more of the Apple-1 computers for a total of 200, of which 175 were sold. As many people kept the computer but discarded the manual, an original Apple-1 Operation Manual is even rarer than the the Apple-1 computer itself.
Manual runs 12 pages, with an illustration of Isaac Newton on the cover, an ''Apple'' dangling over his head signaling the beginning of an information paradigm shift. Indeed, the Digital Revolution that Jobs and Wozniak created rivals that of the Scientific Revolution sparked with Newton's formulation of the laws of gravity.
Manual runs 12 pages and measures 8.5'' x 11'', with the fold-out schematic measuring 16.5'' x 11''. Diffuse foxing to front cover, light toning to interior along edges and some pencil notations to page 11 schematic. Very good to near fine condition.
