Louis Weichman autograph letter signed to Judge John A. Bingham, prosecutor of the Abraham Lincoln assassination conspirators. Weichmann was the star witness for the prosecution, giving eyewitness testimony of the conspirators colluding at Mary Surratt's boarding house. Weichman also traveled with Surratt to Maryland the day of the assassination where Surratt delivered binoculars and organized firearms that John Wilkes Booth and David Herold would use in their escape.

Letter follows a previous missive to Bingham, asking for his help in securing employment as Weichman was experiencing persecution following the trial from government officials and even his church. In this letter, he forwards positive work recommendations. Dated 8 February 1889 from Anderson, Indiana, letter reads,

''In furtherance of the letter I recently sent you, I beg to enclose to you copies of recommendations as to the manner in which I discharged my duties in the Philadelphia Custom House. / Therefore, in appealing to you for your assistance in the near future, I feel that I have an honorable and consistent record to back me up. Please acknowledge receipt...L.J. Weichmann''.

Single page letter measures 7.875'' x 9.875'', with Bingham's notes at bottom. Light wear and folds, overall in very good condition.
