Mark Twain autograph note signed on his personal note card with ''SC'' monogrammed. Penned to ''Major Wood'', Twain accepts an invitation to visit Louisiana Governor Henry Clay Warmoth's plantation, a trip that Twain describes in the ''Sugar and Postage'' chapter of his memoir, ''Life on the Mississippi''. Though undated, note was written in April or May 1882, a few days before Twain visited the plantation. Note reads in full, ''Dear Major Wood - / We wish to accept your kind offer, & go down to Gov. Warmouth's [sic] plantation. Thursday, shall it be? (Meantime we shall let it be understood that we go to the jetties tomorrow - but we shan't). / Mr. Phelps will hand you this & return & report to / Yrs truly / Mark Twain / Many thanks for to-day's excursion.'' Written on both sides of the card, which measures 5.25'' x 2.875''. Minor soiling, overall very good plus condition. Accompanied by original envelope. Also accompanied by newspaper clipping titled ''Mark Twain's Southern Trip''.
