Rare 37 volume set of ''The Works of Mark Twain'', signed by Twain on the flyleaf of the first volume with both his given name and famous pseudonym: ''SL Clemens / Mark Twain''. This limited edition is #386 of 1,024 copies, complete in 37 volumes with the rare two ''Autobiography'' volumes published in 1925. New York: Gabriel Wells, 1922-23 published after Twain's death; Twain signed the pages in 1906 prior to its publication, and all signed pages were then tipped into volume I of each set. Twain biographer Albert Bigelow Paine also signs volume I, on a separate flyleaf. Volumes each measure 6'' x 9''. Some expected scuffing to boards, displaying very well. Partial separation to hinges of a few volumes. Very good condition overall.
