Marquetry box made by White House police officer F.C. Mayes, known for his rare custom-made boxes incorporating wood from the White House grounds and from its 1950 renovation. Lovely keepsake box measures 7.5'' x 3.75'' x 2.125'' with inlaid wood in a snowflake and square design on its lid. The hinged box opens to reveal an embossed White House card on the underside reading ''Made by F.C. Mayes'' and a diagram describing the box's design. Box displays beautifully, in near fine condition. Wooden marquetry boxes by Mayes are quite rare and desirable.
