Sinclair Lewis signed first edition, first printing of ''Babbitt'', published eight years before Lewis won the Nobel Prize in Literature. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Co., 1922. Inscribed by Lewis on the front free endpaper, ''To Bert Nock / with the greetings / of Sinclair Lewis''. All first printings points present, including ''Supposing Purdy'' on page 49, line four; and ''my fellow human'' on line five of same page. Bound in publisher's blue cloth boards with orange blocking and lettering, lacking jacket. Measures 5'' x 7.5'' and runs 401pp. with six additional pages of ads. Tape repair to a few pages, separation starting at front hinge, as well as to faded backstrip. Overall in fair condition.
