Theodore Roosevelt check signed, penned entirely in his hand to his private secretary and advisor, John W. McGrath. Dated 21 April 1916 and drawn on the Astor Trust Company, Roosevelt pays him $263. Roosevelt first hired McGrath in 1912 on the recommendation of a political friend as Roosevelt was in the process of establishing the Progressive Party. Check measures 8.625'' x 3.125''. Partially affixed to mat board and minute smudging to signature. Overall very good plus condition. With University Archives COA.
